Camera Self-Calibration from Ellipse Correspondences

In this paper, we introduce a new technique for cu.mera self-calibration, irsing ellipse correspondences. Bu.sed o n a n anmlysis of ellipse matches between the images obtained from th,e same viewpoint but with different o.nd un.knoiiin i i k w direction,s, our approach est imates the intriirsic camera, param.eters. W e present both liner and non-linear solution,s t o recovering in t r insic camera parameters. The algorithm's performance i s validated eztensiiiely using both synthetic and rea.1 i m age du.ta. C o m p r e d with similar techn.iques but using points, we observe a comparable performance. The use of ellipses, however, greatly simplifies feature matching between images, improues matching accuracy, and avoids mismatch,.
